We are seeking a Legal Counsel who is detail-oriented, technologically savvy and a strong negotiator to join our dynamic legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating all invoices from external firms and vendors to ensure accuracy and compliance with our billing guidelines and respective terms of engagement. This role requires a strong understanding of legal billing practices, strong negotiation skills and the ability to master third-party spend management software and perform basic coding in Microsoft Excel.
Responsibilties
Review and negotiate all invoices from external firms and vendors to ensure accuracy and compliance with our billing guidelines and respective terms of engagement.
Ensure that all time entries by external firms are reasonable and comply with our billing guidelines.
Cost management - identify and address any discrepancies or overcharging in bills and work with external counsel to reach a favourable resolution.
Work closely with the internal legal and finance teams to ensure that budgets are adhered to and invoices are properly reviewed.
Build and maintain good working relationships with external firms to facilitate strong controls over billing practices.
Maintain accurate records of all billing reviews, communications, and resolutions. Prepare regular reports to highlight any trends, issues, or areas for improvement.
Assist in updating our billing guidelines, policies and processes to ensure they remain current and effective.
Provide training and guidance to internal teams and external counsel on billing guidelines and best practices.
Requirements
At least 3 years PQE as a practicing lawyer.
Prior experience in litigation is preferred.
Technologically savvy - confident in your ability to master third-party spend management software and perform basic coding in Microsoft Excel.
Strong negotiation skills - your ability to negotiate with external firms and third party vendors will be tested and will be an OKR.
Prior experience in the crypto and blockchain industry is preferred but not necessary.
Keen interest in joining the fintech, crypto and blockchain industry.
Be process-driven, detail-oriented but also pragmatic and service-focused.
Competent working in a fast-paced environment.
Keep open lines of communication, collaborate with other teams and stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional business teams and maintain relationships with necessary legal, regulatory and compliance stakeholders.
