Associate & Counsel - J.P. Morgan Wealth Management/Consumer and Community Banking Legal department

Join JPMorgan Chase & Co., a leading global financial services firm, as an Associate & Counsel in our Wealth Management/Consumer and Community Banking Legal department. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with specific groups, offering legal services to the Corporation. As part of the J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Office of General Counsel, you'll contribute to our commitment to excellence in investment banking, financial services, and asset management.

Position Description

As an Associate Counsel in the J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Legal Team, you will be responsible for providing legal support to the firm's wealth management businesses. This includes handling escalations, conducting legal research, and assisting senior team members with various business requests and regulatory projects. You will also be involved in reviewing account documentation, drafting customer-facing communications, and working on special projects. This role requires excellent legal research skills, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

The team is responsible for advising the firm's client-facing wealth management business. Such legal support will primarily concern laws within the United States. The successful candidate will support the Firm's Advisors, Sales Management, Operations, and Supervisory teams while working closely with colleagues on the J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Legal team, Compliance, Controls and Risk to ensure comprehensive and effective support.

Job Responsibilities Handle escalations sent to the JPM WM legal team, complete legal research, and assist senior team members with a wide range of business requests and regulatory projects.Be organized, attentive to detail, exercise sound decision-making, and escalate issues when appropriate.Thrive in a high-paced, deadline-promote organization, where timely execution of high-quality work product is expected.Review account documentation, including powers of attorney, non-disclosure agreements, trust agreements, entity documents (e.g. corporate resolutions, by-laws, partnership agreements), court orders, guardianship documents, complex beneficiary changes, estate documentation (e.g., death certificates, wills), and retirement account documents.Draft or edit certain customer-facing communications.Conduct legal and market research.Identify potential issues and work with senior team members and appropriate business partners to provide solutions and update account agreements, customer-facing documents, and disclosures, including reviewing legal requirements for new provisions. Required qualifications, capabilities and skills: Seeking bilingual candidates that are fluent in written and spoken English, with excellent English writing and oral communication skills.Law degree and membership in jurisdictional organization. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.Minimum of 2 years of experience in legal practice.Excellent legal research skills. A team player who can collaborate and communicate effectively with attorneys and other business and compliance professionals.Strong analytical thinker who is detail-oriented, practical and skilled at issue spotting and problem solving.Self-starter who is able to work independently, takes ownership of responsibilities and projects, is results-oriented and flexible. Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, complex business environment and maintain communication with attorneys regarding project status and estimated completion timelines.All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment. Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills: LLM preferred.Experience with Westlaw or similar services preferred.Experience or interest in broker-dealer and investment advisory matters, including financial services regulation and/or financial services litigation.Knowledge of U.S. financial service law and process.Experience studying or working in a common law jurisdiction.
