ABOUT YOUR ROLE Due to rapid growth, we are seeking an Underwriter Data Scientist to expand our Underwriting Team dedicated to tropical cyclones. At the core of our company's strategy, your key missions will be structuring and pricing of parametric insurance covers to deliver innovative insurance products to a worldwide based public sector and corporate clients. This role will allow you to gain knowledge of the insurance industry and particularly the natural catastrophes sector, all while collaborating closely with other internal teams (Commercial, Software, RD, Operations and Legal) and our external partners. Your key missions will include: Conduct structuring work, risk analysis and insurance proposal for worldwide public sector and corporate clients Discuss business opportunities with Descartes' partners and be responsible for technical documentation and insurance contracts redaction Collaborate with the business team to understand client needs and issues to further improve our product offering Participate in the development of Descartes' technological platform to differentiate Descartes from its competitors (nat cat models and pricing tools) Work autonomously and pragmatically to make appropriate technical decisions with attention to details. ABOUT YOU EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Graduated from an Engineering school with a specialization in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics or meteorological studies Ideally a previous experience (long-term internship) in insurance or climate modeling. SKILLS Proficiency in Python Proficiency in statistics and applied mathematics methods Insurance or Cat modeling experience is a plus Eye for quality, autonomous and attention to detail Excellent communication (written and verbal) Fluency in English (written and verbal communication) is required Good command of one additional language (e.g. Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish) is valued.
