The Manager, Technical Services, is part of an integrated Project team reporting to the Zafranal General Manager. The incumbent will lead a broad range of technical disciplines in support of advancing the Zafranal Project through Project Sanction and Operational Readiness in preparation for production. This position is based in Lima, Perú.
The role will be responsible for ensuring optimum technical support and supervising all near-to-medium term technical disciplines of the Zafranal mine engineering, mine design and scheduling, geoscience, geotechnical, tailings and metallurgy disciplines. This will include working closely with the strategic planning team led by the Director, Strategic Planning Latam, translating the long-term asset plans into execution plans. The Manager, Technical Services, will also lead and support any technical and operational trade-offs, analysis, and evaluations to ensure value maximization of the project as Zafranal moves towards first production.
Key functions of the role include: Be a fearless safety leader, comply with and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.Lead and coordinate key technical disciplines including Geoscience, Metallurgy, Mine and Geotechnical Engineering towards safely and effectively achieving goals and objectives.Build and mentor a high-performing technical team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous support.Collaborate closely with the Project team Senior management to develop and implement long-term strategies for asset development and optimization.Provide effective mine engineering and planning technical support to Environmental and Permitting teams to develop permitting roadmaps and permitting approval processes.Deliver integrated mine and production planning advice and technical solutions to effectively identify risk and opportunities and upside value potential.Regarding operational readiness, be responsible for leading the technical support and activities required for the start-up of mining activities by collaborating with the Strategic Planning Latam team, OR Mining Lead, external consultants and preparing for the creation of this team in 2026.This is achieved through close collaboration with senior technical professionals within Teck LATAM and Teck Technical and Planning, Operations, Projects, and Corporate Development as needed.As a recognized mine technical leader, the incumbent combines the highest technical standards, with a strong work ethic and mentorship skills to foster integration across mining technical disciplines as well as developing technical talent within across Teck's sites.Specific Accountabilities: Maintaining a safe work environment and compliance to the company safety and health standards.Delivering all technical aspects of mining for Project and Operational teams to achieve asset goals.Advise, provide technical support, and coordinate resources to achieve best practice across key technical disciplines.Lead and coordinate site annual planning cycle in collaboration with Teck LATAM and Teck Technical and Planning teams.Promote the use of best mining planning and operational mining practices in support of Project construction and future mine operation.Work collaboratively with geoscience, metallurgy, and geotechnical engineering technical professionals to ensure the most up to date and valid assumptions are used for mine and production planning purposes.Provide technical input to the project managers/leads during the design of major expansion programs and support active engineering study programs as required.Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience: A minimum BSc degree in Mine Engineering, Mineral Processing, Geology, Geoscience or related discipline.Eligible for professional designation in Peru.A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a technical/operational capacity.Progressively senior roles including leading multi-disciplinary teams.Preference given to candidate with strong technical understanding and experience with Porphyry Cu, large scale open pit mine operations.Advanced understanding of the key elements required to articulate a mine plan, including exposure to interact with mineral resource, geo-metallurgical and geotechnical disciplines.Exposure to project and mine engineering principles, metallurgical and processing techniques, and environmental permitting planning and execution.Prepare presentation, technical reports and information packages to assist senior management in decision making.Strong English language skills are required in addition to excellent communication, advanced writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.Demonstrate leadership in the health, safety and sustainability culture of Teck.An inspirational and effective leader who works well with others, both internally and externally.Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience working with a broad range of people.High degree of initiative, self-motivation, accountability and independent judgment.Energetic, empowers others, shares ownership and accountability for project outcomes.Can identify learning and performance gaps in others and is effective in coaching and developing others.Effective leadership and can influence change.Strong understanding of needs of the Business, focuses on priorities, sets objectives and goals, measures performance and evaluates results.
