We are looking for an experienced Senior In-house Legal Counsel with US and Canada experience to provide expert legal and strategic guidance to our business leaders across North America. This role requires an experienced senior legal professional with a robust understanding of commercial and corporate law, while being a key advisor on the company's compliance initiatives and mitigating risks. You will provide counsel to management within the company and coordinate with external legal counsel. You will analyze and summarize complicated legal documents. You will anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the organization and develop strategies to reduce costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risks. You will collaborate closely with all business areas, specifically with Finance, HR, Buying, and Brand teams across Canada and the United States, to provide day-to-day legal advice such as supporting sales activations and reviewing contracts, while contributing to the strategic direction of the company.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, North America, the Senior In-house Legal Counsel undertakes the following RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic PartnershipAct as a key strategic partner and trusted advisor to business leaders, providing expert legal advice and insights.Build and manage panel firm relationships to ensure access to relevant legal expertise and notaries.Lead the North America region legal function, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals and objectives; and working closely with the Group/UK legal functions.Drive the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and best practices across the North America region, aligning with the Group/UK legal functions.Commercial mattersEnsure timely support for contract drafting and reviews.Ensure legally robust and compliant business practices with the latest legislation.Drive collaboration with various stakeholders locally and globally, ensuring that legal matters are effectively and efficiently managed.Maintain the electronic management of all agreements, keeping the Finance team updated.Corporate mattersCounsel business leaders on day-to-day requests regarding corporate legal matters and liaise with the Group/UK legal functions who coordinate company secretarial matters.Facilitate advice to leadership on tax matters, government regulations, and/or legal rights.Partner with the HR Compliance Manager on highly sensitive employment issues.You bring the following QUALIFICATIONS: Experienced lawyer with 7+ years post-JD US experience in commercial/corporate law at a senior level at a law firm or in-house Attorney/Juris Doctor.A minimum of 2+ years post-JD experience in Canada in commercial law and corporate law at a senior level at a law firm or in-house Attorney/Juris Doctor.Diligent, hardworking, and poised under pressure.Strong written and verbal skills, proven ability to articulate legal arguments and present to senior stakeholders.Strong business acumen.Extensive knowledge and familiarity with corporate and commercial law.Proven ability to work independently while effectively prioritizing and managing large, complex workloads and tight deadlines.A proactive, solutions-driven approach.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Flexibility and commitment to accommodate additional work demands as required.Current member of a law society in Canada or Juris Doctor from an accredited US law school.Job Type: Regular, Full Time.

USD Salary range: $150k - $175k USD Annually.
