Nonfiction Labs is seeking a talented and motivated scientist to join our team as a Protein Engineer, focusing on developing and optimizing new engineered protein constructs.
This role will center on the engineering and screening of enzymes using a high-throughput assay, with applications in cutting-edge therapeutic modalities.
You will play a critical role in designing, testing, and refining these proteins to enable spatiotemporal control of therapeutic activity.
In this position, you will:Operate and optimize experimental equipment (training provided).Validate protein responses to key environmental factors, including:pH levels.Temperature.Shelf-stability over time.Conduct iterative mutagenesis to refine response strength through large-scale site-directed mutagenesis.Explore new sequence variants and expand the library of responsive proteins.Evaluate methods to improve experimental throughput and scale, including primer design, analysis of double mutants, and advanced engineering techniques.Key Responsibilities:Execute molecular biology workflows, including PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, colony picking, and bacterial transformation.Develop and conduct high-throughput screening assays to evaluate protein activity.Utilize microscopy for experimental observation and data collection.Analyze experimental data and propose iterative improvements to the design and screening process.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate findings into broader project objectives.Required Skills and Qualifications:Fluency in English in order to collaborate with our international team, and work with technical documentation.Strong foundation in molecular biology techniques.Hands-on experience with screening methods and microscopy.Preferred Skills:Computer vision and imaging expertise, to enhance the throughput and applicability of our screens.Protein engineering and computational protein design, to design new protein constructs for testing.Computational experience in binding prediction and modeling, to filter and prune our library in silico.About Nonfiction Labs:Nonfiction Labs is a biotechnology startup based in San Francisco, California, developing breakthrough technology to achieve spatiotemporal control over therapeutic protein-based drugs.
