Job Overview: Responsible for all of the robots in the body shop. Monitors the factory's performance, manages & allocates manpower and strengthens and develops the organization's production & planning structure. Develops, implants, and improves complex manufacturing production processes and methods.
Responsibilities: Support with training of maintenance and production employeesUpdate technology packages as well as Kuka Software system updatesDevelop best practices to improve production capacity, quality, and reliabilityManage the implementation of continuous improvement processes for efficiency to create a Lean Manufacturing environment.Investigate problems, analyze root causes, and derive resolutions using the 8D Problem Solving Process to ensure sustainable quality products.Develop operational strategies to achieve production and financial objectivesAssure product and process quality by designing complex testing methods; testing finished-product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processesParticipate in budget preparation and monitor expenses and profitabilityWrite spec books; request and evaluate supplier quotationsDesign, document, and implement medium to large-scale manufacturing processes. Determine feasibility of product changesUtilize system analysis of production methods/procedures and process automations for continued growth improvements.Perform a variety of complicated tasks relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsEvaluate current production activities and drive improvementsPeriodically ensure that highly technical equipment meets required specifications and high-quality standardsImplement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high-quality standardsContribute to product and process quality design testing methodsDevelop planning standards, methods, and proceduresStay current with product specifications, engineering technology, and production processesProvide guidance to team members to accomplish production goals; mentor and provide guidance to less senior manufacturing engineers for skill/knowledge base development. Motivate, develop, direct, and influence team members at all levels and cultural backgrounds of the organization.May act as deputy for Production ManagerPropose and manage medium-scale projects from beginning to end. May scope and manage large capital investment projects (>$5M)Participate in regularly scheduled team meetingsPerform other duties as assignedQualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant degree required.Over 5 years of relevant experience required, strongly preferring Body in White including experience such as:Experience with Kuka KRC robotic is a plusHands-on Programming experience in booth or work cellPLC experience such as; Siemens S7 is a plusHands-on experience in off-line simulationsKnowledge of joining technologies such as Mig/Mag, spot, and laser welding, and gluing a plus.3D-CAD experience such as; Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, Siemens NX, etc.Hands-on experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and computer controlled systemsHands-on experience with process devices such as; motor drives, sensors, AC/DC converters, encoders, lifts, conveyors, etc.*6 years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree.Knowledge of manufacturing methods/procedures and process technology.Ability to present complex technical information related to achieving goals of the department.Able to influence team members at all levels of the organizationProven written and verbal communication at all levels within the organization with good negotiation skills.Able to anticipate needs and deliver timely, relevant solutions and actions.Proven design & implementation of Continuous Improvement themes with savingsKnowledge of value stream mapping to reduce waste and improve output in a production environment is desired.Experience in process layout and optimization incorporating asset utilization is a plus.Background in manpower distribution based on production and efficiency targets.Ability to troubleshoot, instruct repair techniques, & assist if needed for root cause analysis in stressful situationsAbility to read & create blueprints and schematicsWe are all in for change. Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC ("MBV") is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC invested 500 million U.S. dollars in the construction of a new Sprinter production plant in addition to an expansion of the previous assembly operations. In September 2018, MBV officially opened its new plant, located next to existing operations in the North Charleston area. The MBV facility will provide up to 1,300 jobs by the end of the decade and is expected to create at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers.
More than 130,000 Sprinters have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
