Position Purpose: Oversees management of the HECHMET system hosted at the University of Ottawa, part of a consortium that tracks and manages hazardous materials and equipment at postsecondary institutions. Ensures the operational and scientific integrity of software and data, as well as system maintenance to national regulatory standards. Promotes HECHMET, engaging and fully integrating new members. Liaises with members to ensure that the catalogue of 350,000 hazardous materials is maintained and updated based on Canadian regulatory standards.
In this role, your responsibilities will include: Oversees the financial management of the consortium, including new member integration, maintenance, administration, staffing salaries, annual financial reports to the Steering Committee, as well as submitting annual audit reports to ensure the continued long-term financial viability of the program. Reports quarterly to the HECHMET Consortium steering committee on performance of the software, financial reports, audit reports, bugs and enhancements strategies. Make recommendations on changes to the software based on cost benefit analysis to the advantage of the consortium. Coordinates new member integration, including site visits to member institutions, documentation preparation, WebX presentations and customer support. Maintains budget for new member integration team. The successful integration and start-up of new members will impact the reputation of HECHMET and ensure the quality of the catalogue data. Liaises with Vertère Inc. on issues related to the performance of the software, including making recommendations on enhancements, transferring information related to software issues to ensure ongoing management of the software. Liaises with internal stakeholders such as CCS and Procurement to ensure standards are maintained, compliance with Bill 128 and continuity of computing services for the members of HECHMET. What you will bring: Master's in a science-related discipline, including chemistry, biology, physics or chemical engineering. Five years' work experience. Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations. Excellent communication skills. Ability to handle and protect sensitive and secure information. Ability to multitask and problem-solve. Ability to obtain controlled goods security clearance (federal government confidential/secret clearance equivalent). Excellent software skills. Ability to prepare annual reports and technical reports. Knowledge of hazardous materials (essential). Ability to work in a stressful environment. Excellent customer relations skills.
