Purpose of the Position: This position manages product maturity at the part commodity level while interfacing between MBUSI and R&D (Germany). You will ensure that the design intent is achieved and maintained within the product manufacturing process. This position will have the primary accountability for product maturity at the part level for the HVAC system. You will provide support for the production plant towards all design related topics, being a full representative from R&D. Ensure functional requirements through resolving issues that may come out from extensive testing in overall vehicle or the field.
Essential Functions: Assume the full design responsibility (BTV) for local parts and perform the release process for necessary design changes and product deviation requests. Collaborate with the development department in Germany to review the set specifications and advise modifications required by the local market or production plant without affecting the quality of the product. Review the set specifications with R&D Sindelfingen and advise modifications required by the local market customer requirements and manufacturability without affecting the quality of the product. Test and evaluate proposed changes (change HVAC parameters, etc.). Ensure initiated product change requests (ECs) and product deviation requests (PDR) are properly executed. Steer and validate part maturity levels during prototype phase. Identify critical issues as input to R&D utilizing the lessons learned process through regular meetings and workshops. Support supplier industrialization with part issue root cause analysis and technical product knowledge. Support the analysis of supplier topics, production topics, end of line, GFP-S/D, VoCA, GSP, and dealership/final customer (TIPS and GuK topics). Analyze specific development problems and provide solutions in form of long- & short-term countermeasures. Attend the MG, PLE and technical meetings giving relevant input from the production plant side. Available to travel to suppliers & Mercedes-Benz facilities worldwide as required. Perform safe work practices and participate in trainings and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards and laws. Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to supervisor or Human Resources. Work safely 100% of the time. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications: Education: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in the following area(s): Development, design or product engineering for automotive HVAC systems.
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc: In-depth product development experience and active knowledge of the product development process of automotive HVAC systems. Demonstrate experience with HVAC systems including functional validation and testing and knowledge of all components of the refrigerant circuit including software parameterization. Injection molding knowledge of 1K/2K molded parts and blow-molded parts, stepper motors and plastic material properties and performance. Experience in carrying out design changes and support product testing and part approval. Detailed knowledge of interior air quality/filter systems including the necessary sensors. Knowledge of the automotive E/E architecture. Technical understanding of hardware (electronics), software and mechanics. Able to support and guide NVH / BSR, water leak investigations, and direct the supplier to resolve design related issues. Minimum of 2 years of CAD experience, preferably NX. Experience in collaborating and controlling a supplier network. Demonstration of being highly motivated, independent and possess the ability to work in an international team environment. Preferred Skills: Mercedes-Benz development and release experience. Ability to use data processing tools (PC based) and Mercedes-Benz documentation & release systems such as SMARAGD, DIALOG, NCM, ZEUS, PDR, CAD, etc. VDA 6.3 certified auditor. German language skills.
