About you and this role - What you would do in this role The Dow Chemical Company has an opportunity for a Government Affairs Director located in Buenos Aires.
This position exists to drive and execute Dow's government affairs strategy for Argentina and to a lesser extent other countries in the South Region of Latin America.
The position will work very closely with Dow's country leader and the region's Leadership Team.
General Description: Responsible for the development and execution of the government affairs and trade association strategy of Dow in Argentina and the South Region of Latin America (Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay) in order to protect the company's license to operate and advance its business agenda and priorities by interacting and representing Dow with various stakeholders at all levels of government.
Responsibilities: Develops, executes, and leads strategies to favorably position Dow and its core public policy objectives in trade associations and with critical governmental audiences at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. Develops and maintains contacts and liaison with appropriate local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Interacts with elected officials and their staff in order to meet Dow's legislative and public policy objectives, including the passage of legislation at the provincial and federal level. Follow-up of legislative, policy and regulatory initiatives related to Dow's interest at all government levels. Serves as a close counsel to the President of Dow Argentina and the Leadership Team of the South Region of Latin America, providing both strategic advice and support on matters of interest, as well as informing of emerging political and policy issues and developments. Assumes leadership of key initiatives and provides support to Dow's businesses, including partnering with Dow's businesses to maintain and support business development contacts. Maximizes Dow's investments in its trade associations and memberships through active oversight, engagement, and communication of the company's objectives to advocate for sound policies impacting the businesses. Leads the construction and leveraging of a comprehensive map of key government stakeholders, decision-makers and influencers and uses this to systematically build and maintain relations to provide a sound platform for engagement. Oversees and manages outside consultants, partners and vendors, as necessary. Qualifications: Graduate degree in law, political science or economics; master's degree such as MBA/Finance preferred. A minimum of ten years of legislative and government affairs professional experience, preferably in a chemical, energy, or materials science company or trade association or in a consulting firm focused on chemical, energy, and/or materials science clients.
Previous experience in communications and media relations roles or the media are a plus. Understanding of chemical, energy, trade, environmental and materials science regulations and issues and the ability to quickly grasp and address the legislative and policy issues of importance to the company. Understand the dynamics of trade policies and main federal stakeholders, translating and connecting with business leaders the main challenges and opportunities. Organizational skills and proven ability to successfully execute policy, political and business objectives. Ability to translate business goals into results through the development and execution of an effective advocacy strategy and relationship program. Ability to effectively communicate the value proposition of Dow's technologies and solutions to policy makers for the purpose of generating understanding and support. Ability to build networks and lead industry coalitions with similar agendas. Strong legislative and policy analysis skills and the ability to communicate effectively in a timely manner. Strong public speaking and presentation skills, for both internal and external audiences. Oral and written proficiency in English.
