About Mercedes-Benz Stadium Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the home of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United and opened for its first events in August 2017. The stadium is also host of numerous other sports and entertainment events. The multi-purpose venue features flexible capacity that can expand to up to 83,000 seats; a retractable roof structure inspired by the oculus in the ancient Rome Pantheon; views of the Atlanta skyline; a 360-degree HD video halo board that, at nearly six stories tall and 1,100 linear feet in diameter, is the largest in the NFL and the world; an exterior fan plaza that provides fans with pre- and post-game entertainment; and a host of bars, restaurants and unique gathering destinations offering fans an unparalleled game day experience. Mercedes-Benz Stadium is part of AMB Sports & Entertainment, which also includes the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United.
Position Summary The Director of Major Events will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating resources for Major Event Management function in line with our organizational core values and deliver excellent support to maximize the fan experience and to create a sustainable, safe, clean, and fan friendly environment in a world class sports and entertainment venue. This position will primarily oversee event management for major events which may include Atlanta Falcons games and Atlanta United matches, FIFA World Cup and World Club Championship, High School Football, College Football, Concerts, International Soccer matches, Super Bowl, and The Home Depot Backyard. The Director of Major Events will also oversee event management for other events as assigned to the Event Managers reporting to this individual and may occasionally be the lead on major events.
The Director of Major Events will report to the Vice President, Major Events.
Roles and Responsibilities Oversee the development and leadership of 2-3 Event Managers, their direct reports, and any seasonal staff and/or interns.Coach direct reports providing constructive feedback on performance and event management under their ownership and areas of growth for managers and event coordinators reporting to them.Partner with the Vice President, Major Events to hire, train, coach and ultimately retain associates.Ensure the necessary pre-work is completed by direct reports to conduct timely planning meetings that are efficient for all involved. This includes pre-event and after-action meetings for assigned major events to include all pertinent internal departments and external partners.Oversee event specifics with direct reports in communicating the client's objectives and event details regarding schedules, staffing, equipment rentals etc. including Conversions/Sustainability, Housekeeping, Engineering, Food Service, Security, Medical, Production, IT, Parking, Public Safety, Ticketing, Media, etc.Oversee and assist with the preparation of event related estimates and final settlements with the appropriate finance designee.Ensure the event elements of the contract are accurately executed and the equipment, physical set-up and personnel provided meet the requirements of the event, including the load-in and load-out of events as well as the arrival and departure of equipment and staging for the events.Identify operational challenges associated with major events and determines how to best work with stadium departments and the client to solve these challenges and/or develop alternative solutions.Coordinate with League personnel on event management best practices and compliance for the NFL and MLS.Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for the department. Implement facility plans to support the stadium's strategic plan and measure success.Participate in client site inspections and walk throughs, assists with the sales process as necessary.Coordinate joint activities with the Georgia World Congress Center and International Plaza to advance the Mission, Values and Vision of both organizations.Establish and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, contractors, and all key internal and external key stakeholders.Represent and promote the facility in industry associations and organizations and maintain liaison with competitive stadium facilities.Be a continuous learner and participate in training programs.Maintain a professional image that represents our culture with emphasis on providing the highest level of service possible.Performs other duties as assigned to meet stadium, event, department, and business needs.Embrace and ALWAYS practice our 6 Core Values: Put People First, Listen and Respond, Include Everyone, Innovate Continuously, Lead by Example and Give Back to Others.Education Requirements Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred, preferably in a Facility Management, Event Management or Sports & Entertainment related field.Qualifications 7-10 years of progressive responsibility in a functional leadership position with a major stadium or multi-purpose facility, or equivalent experience, with direct responsibilities planning large scale events and managing a team.Experience with NFL and/or MLS guidelines and protocols preferred.Required Skills Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels both internally and externally.Must have good management, judgement, organizational and analytical abilities.Strong attention to detail.Positive and inspirational leadership skills.Customer service orientation with focus on quality and timely results with a sense of urgency.Able to simultaneously manage a high level of detail across multiple projects.Able to demonstrate flexibility and quickly adapt to changes while maintaining high levels of productivity and effectiveness under pressure.Able to effectively lead a team and provide support to all department team members whenever necessary.Able to balance internal priorities with client expectations.Proficient in Microsoft office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, internet software and basic graphic design.Punctuality. Must be able to work late nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays, indoors and outdoors.Ability to travel for event advances and offsite meetings which may occur out of state or country.
