How will you make an impact in this role? This position will be a member of a dynamic and high-performing General Counsel's Organization practice group that provides support to American Express businesses in Latin America and Caribbean with main responsibility for supporting various business teams in Argentina.
Main Responsibilities will include: Managing the General Counsel´s Office in Argentina, serving as the primary legal support for the American Express Argentina business that includes Consumer and Corporate Cards, Establishment Services, Travel, Insurance, and activities of the Global Network services related to the operation of AXP in Argentina, providing holistic and strategic legal support across all areas, including commercial and legal strategy, drafting and negotiation of agreements, and advising business clients on contract interpretation and legal issues. Providing legal support to all staff areas, including Compliance, Finance, Real Estate, Treasury, Operations, etc. Managing a team of attorneys that provide comprehensive legal support for Argentina, including corporate governance, regulatory developments, data protection, AML, labor and employment, litigation management, digital payments, intercompany agreements, foreign exchange regulations, marketing, consumer defense, trademark licensing and a broad range of transactional matters. Advising the board of directors of the Argentina legal entity and handling all legal issues related to this entity´s operations. Coordinating with GCO colleagues across regions and practice groups to ensure the most effective support and relevant expertise is applied to specific matters assuring global alignment and consistency. Supporting several global projects to implement new products and launch new policies. Overseeing outside counsel firms, including budget control and management. Assessing potential commercial impact of regulatory developments relevant to the payments industry supporting Government Affairs action plan and efforts. Qualifications: Broad familiarity or experience in financial services legal and regulatory matters; specific experience in payment systems a plus. Proven experience in multinational companies with matrix organizations. Specific experience and knowledge in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements. Lawyer with (8) plus years of relevant experience in multinational corporations or recognized law firms. Fully bilingual English and Spanish. Demonstrated competency in (i) interfacing with, influencing and advising dynamic and fast-paced business teams at all levels; (ii) agile legal analysis identifying risks, decision making, resolving novel, complex issues with a resourceful, "can-do" attitude; (iii) handling multiple tasks, taking on new responsibilities and prioritizing work in a dynamic, deadline-intensive environment; (iv) leading and facilitating change; (v) dealing with ambiguity and uncertainty. Exceptional written and verbal communications skills; ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization and with external constituencies, and to drive consensus and exert influence in a cross-functional capacity. Strong people leader, ability to act as coach mentor and role model to people within his/her team, others in the GCO and businesses. Courageous, stands up for what is right, confronts constructively and confidently. Self-motivated, high level of personal energy and commitment; drive to excel; motivation and ability to master diverse sets of skills, legal/regulatory areas and business strategies/operations; strong customer focus.
