Brainstems is a startup building an AI protocol for trustless intelligence interoperability across the enterprise supply chain.

We are looking for a Data Technical Lead who will drive our data strategy and oversee the engineering efforts across the organization. This unique position requires a balance between hands-on technical work and strategic leadership. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in data engineering, with the ability to make company-wide technical decisions and manage subprojects or teams, ensuring that data initiatives are aligned with our business goals.

Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Partner with the CTO and Blockchain Technical Lead to define and implement a data strategy that supports Brainstems' objectives. Provide technical guidance that influences the direction of data initiatives across the company. Technical Decision-Making: Lead high-level technical decision-making processes that impact the entire company, while also addressing specific needs of subprojects or specialized teams. Hands-On Development: Engage in coding and data architecture design, utilizing your expertise in data engineering to build scalable, robust, and efficient data systems. Team Management: Manage and mentor data engineering teams, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and technical excellence. Ensure that team efforts are aligned with overall project goals. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work in collaboration with other teams and departments (such as data analytics, data science, IT, and operations) to understand their data needs and ensure that the data engineering team can meet those needs. Project Planning: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, prioritize, and execute data-centric projects. Balance technical innovation with practical, scalable implementation. Innovation and Best Practices: Stay ahead of industry trends, promoting a culture of continuous learning and adoption of best practices in data engineering. Data Strategy: Contribute to the overall data strategy of the organization, ensuring that the efforts of the data engineering team are aligned with business objectives and priorities. Data Systems Design and Maintenance: Ensure data storage systems (like databases, data warehouses, data lakes) are optimally designed for business needs and maintain them efficiently. Data Pipeline Development and Optimization: Build and optimize robust, scalable data pipelines for the collection, storage, and analysis of large volumes of data. Ensuring Data Quality and Security: Implement practices and tools to ensure data quality and protect sensitive information, complying with data protection regulations like GDPR or HIPAA. Cost Optimization: Manage and optimize costs associated with data storage and processing, including the use of cloud resources and the selection of appropriate technologies. Requirements: 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineering Manager, Data Technical Lead, or similar role with a strong track record of leading teams and delivering complex data projects. Proficiency in AWS services such as Amazon S3 for data storage, AWS Glue for ETL processes and data cataloging, and Amazon Athena for querying data stored in S3. Strong understanding of data modeling principles and database design, enabling efficient data organization and retrieval. Advanced SQL skills for performing ETL tasks, querying aggregated data, and optimizing database performance. Proficiency in Python, with extensive experience using libraries such as Pandas for data manipulation. Familiarity with using Python in AWS environments for building and managing data workflows. Experience with ETL tools and frameworks, including Apache Spark and AWS Glue, to process and transform large datasets effectively. Knowledge of basic descriptive statistics and the ability to perform data analysis using Python libraries like SciPy or NumPy. Proficiency in using open-source tools for generating comprehensive data reports, providing actionable insights to stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to operate independently, understanding complex business problems and executing data-driven solutions. This is a full-time role, requiring commitment and dedication to lead and manage data initiatives at Brainstems. A minimum of B2-level English proficiency is required, as the role involves daily communication with both native and non-native English speakers, in both written and oral forms.
