Job Overview: Primary purpose of the position is to build production aids (carts, racks, tool holders, basic tools, etc.) to assist manufacturing operations in Body, Paint, and Assembly Shops. Support internal customers by designing and building equipment needed to meet production goals. Focus on identifying and improving processes and using MPS (Lean) principles to implement successful results.
Responsibilities: Design & build manufacturing aids and equipment (e.g. carts, racks, jigs/fixtures, tool holders, etc.)Work with internal customers, engineers, MPS experts to design equipment to fulfill project requestsUse data to objectively evaluate situations and build solutions which will result in measurable improvementsOperate powered tools and equipment and computerized machines to produce project componentsIdentify and reduce/eliminate manufacturing process wastesProvide support needed to enable team members to self-implement projectsBe an "ambassador" for MPS and continuous improvement in the plantWork on time-sensitive projects to support customer goalsSupport 5S, continuous improvement process (CIP), standardization initiativesMaintain flexibility to support changes in customer requests and project planningPeriodically adjust work schedule to install projects during non-production times (including after hours, weekends)Participate in regularly scheduled team meetingsPerform other duties as assignedQualifications: High School Diploma or GEDRequired: 2+ years of relevant manufacturing experience; OR Relevant certificate and 1+ years of relevant experiencePreferred: 3+ years of relevant experience; OR Relevant certificate and 2+ years of relevant experienceAble to perform the essential functions of the jobSelf-motivated and self-directedExperience working with hand tools is requiredExperience using powered tools and equipmentExperience working with various materials; aluminum, plastics, steel, wood, etc.Experience with Mercedes-Benz Production System or equivalent Lean systemConventional machining and/or welding experience preferredPrefer experience in automotive manufacturingProduction process orientation and understandingFamiliarity with the Metric systemWe are all in for change.
