The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is currently searching for a qualified and reliable Building Maintenance Specialist to oversee and carry out preventative maintenance and fulfilling other facility maintenance duties as assigned. This position is involved in the daily repairs of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), kitchen equipment repairs, and utility service systems within Arizona State Prison Complex - Yuma.
Job Duties:Schedules and plans maintenance-related projects to include pricing, material list, equipment and needsPerforms maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduledCompletes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisorBasic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research and completion of documentsInspects and maintain tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted forSupervises and evaluates inmate workers performanceAttends staff meetings and training as required, and perform other duties appropriate to the assignmentDrives on State businessPerforms other duties appropriate to the assignmentKnowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of:
Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codesTrades, e.g., electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.Budgeting to include estimating costs and ordering materialsCommon and specialized tools and equipment for performing dutiesOccupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulationsSkill in:
Basic reading of blueprints, schematics, and general constructionMechanical devices, electrical, preventative maintenanceUsing and demonstrating the use of common and specialized toolsWritten and verbal communicationBuilding and maintaining interpersonal relationshipsAbility to:
Work in a prison environmentSupervise inmate work crewsLearn and adhere to ADCRR policies and proceduresSelective Preference(s):On-the-job training as a technical or generalized maintenance staff personTechnical educationSpecialized trade schools and unionsPre-Employment Requirements:Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance.
