Job Overview We are seeking a Development Engineer III - Wet Coating Equipment Design to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona.
This role focuses on designing process equipment for thin film wet coating applications, scaling laboratory processes to high-volume manufacturing, and driving innovation in photovoltaic device performance.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in gravure roll coating, process optimization, and equipment troubleshooting to improve functionality and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities Design and qualify wet coating equipment and its components to enable thin film processes.
Develop gravure roll coating techniques, drying processes, and characterization methods to enhance photovoltaic devices on glass panels.
Collaborate with vendors to scale formulations, including mixing, filtration, and packaging processes.
Troubleshoot and implement hardware upgrades to improve equipment performance.
Plan, execute, and analyze complex experiments for process optimization.
Provide technical guidance and direction to technicians, ensuring seamless project execution.
Participate in cross-functional reviews and effectively communicate technical results to stakeholders, including upper management and RD teams.
Essential Skills and Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or related field (Materials Science, Polymer Science, Physics) with 10+ years of relevant experience.
Master's Degree in similar disciplines with 8+ years of relevant experience.
Ph.D. in similar disciplines with 5+ years of relevant experience.
Prior experience with high-volume manufacturing.
Expertise in gravure roll, slot die, spray, or curtain coating processes is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience with wet coating and drying equipment, including upgrades and troubleshooting.
Solid understanding of fluid mechanics and drying unit operations.
Familiarity with semiconductor device physics and film characterization techniques (e.g., XRD, SEM, SIMS, AFM, XPS).
Strong statistical analysis skills, including regression analysis, multivariate analysis, and design of experiments.
Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., JMP) and MS Office applications (MS Access knowledge is a plus).
